Burghalder refuge keep
The Burghalder is a lost hilltop castle at 370m above sea level. NN at the local community Hauenstein. The castle lay on a rock, the "Burghalder" (also called castle rock) where a moat with a section wall and an inscription reminds of the castle. The Burghalder was probably built in the 9th-10th centuries. It was built in the 19th century as a late Carolingian refuge. The remains of broken fragments show that it was used until the 12th century. Historical evidence for the castle complex is unknown. Today there is still a castle stable towering over Hauenstein, which can be reached via the Burghalder Weg.
The rocks are also very popular with rock climbers.
