Turn-by-turn directions
The RheinTerrassenWeg leads you gently up through the slope to the Rhine plateau, from which in clear weather you can enjoy magnificent views of the Rhine, Odenwald and the Frankfurt skyline. There is a fantastic view from the picinic area at the junction to Laubenheim (rail connection) and from the "Zöller Kreuz".
The tour of the former Weisenau limestone quarry begins from Laubenheimer Höhe. A resting area provides a great geological insight. After crossing the A 60, you take the descend to the banks of the Rhine. Especially in wet weather, this passage, which runs on natural ground and becomes quite steep in the end, can be slippery and require good sturdy shoes.
Along the Rhine you can reach the city park of Mainz, where the main route ends. A path leads to the Roman Theater station ("Römisches Theater") on the edge of the old town of Mainz. A pleasant city tour to St. Martin's Cathedral and Gutenberg Museum will be the highlight of this hike.
Requirement:
The area around the "RheinTerrassenWeg" offers hardly any shadow an no chance to hide from wind and weather. That is why it's important to bring suitable clothing with you. 90% of the route follows on comfortable, mostly paved paths. On the way you can stop at "Laubenheimer Höhe" and on the banks of the Rhine.
