From the Porta Nigra you walk in the direction of the Moselle. Here the path leads you over the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge to the other side of the Moselle. There you follow Bitburger Straße in the direction of "Hochschule" until you see a small path along the sandstone rock at the first curve. Follow this to the Weisshauswald hiking car park. The paths through the Weisshauswald lead through what is probably the most popular local recreation area for the people of Trier. Hikers can choose from among other things three designated walking routes or hiking trails (W 1, W 2 and W 3), which all start at the parking lot of the game reserve. The 4 to 9 km long routes lead up and down through the forest. For example, from the car park, follow the signs for W2. The path leads through the forest, is suitable for pushchairs and is also suitable for jogging for anyone who is not afraid of a few meters in altitude. The path ends again at the hiking car park, from where you can then hike back to the city centre. Roman remains and shady wooded areas await you on the W3 hiking trail. Those who then decide to take a detour onto the rock path will be rewarded again and again between the trees with a great panoramic view of Trier and the Moselle.

Author’s recommendation

A detour to the "House of the Forest" and the animal enclosure is worthwhile. The "House of the Forest" informs children and adults about the history, meaning and function of the forest. Opening hours: May to October on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm to 5pm and from November to April on Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm to 4pm. Wild boars, red deer, goats, pheasants, etc. can be observed in the wildlife enclosure behind the "House of the Forest". Feeding the animals is allowed with special game feed from automatic feeders.

Freely accessible. Admission is free of charge.

Ziemlich langweilig 😠
