You will find futher information of all sections of the Rhine Cycle Route here.
Requirement:
Section Bingen-Mainz: It is mostly a non-climbing bike route and that is why it's suitable for everyone, including families with children. It is also suitable for hand bikers, even though some cycle path sections are narrow and not barrier-free, especially in the Area of Mainz City (you have to cycle on the sidewalk and be aware of crossroads). It is suitable for racing cyclists, too.
Stage Mainz-Worms (Veloroute Rhein): It is mostly a not-climbing route, therefore it is suitable for everyone who likes to spend a few hours cycling. There might be some irregularities in the cycle pads, so it is not totally recommendable for racing cyclists.
For children as well as hand bikers and in case you use a bike trailer, there are a many of difficult spots (curves, posts, barriers, crossings). But it's still doable because of long and easy routes in between.
Surface qualities:
There are some sections of "Leinpfad" that are not asphaltic. Stage Bingen-Mainz: 2.5 km sand or gravel paths, all other sections of asphalt, paving or covered with cement. Stage Mainz-Worms (Veloroute Rhein): 48 km asphalt or concrete paths, 11 km of sand, gravel or split surfaces, partly you have to pass by via asphalt paths.
