Saar-Hunsrück Climb - 16th Leg: Rhaunen - Laufersweiler - Sohren (North)

From Rhaunen, the route accompanies Idarbach with its historic mills for 4 km; of these, Weiterbacher Mill is still operational and has a small mill shop.
From Reitzenmühle the route goes through a wood along with the “Kappleifelsen-Tour” and “Via Molarum” Dream Loops. Between Laufersweiler and Niederweiler we experience an atmospheric change from forest to agricultural meadow landscapes. After crossing the L182 we first go through a wood and then through idyllic meadows to the little village of Dill from the Middle Ages with its imposing castle ruin and Baroque village church.
Behind Dillerbach we follow a reconstructed part of the old Roman road and a short time later reach an imitation Roman guard tower. We then follow a stretch of disused railway with great views of Idarkopf and its surrounding area to Sohren. On the north side a path goes into the centre for around one kilometre.

Weitersbacher and Gösenrother Mühle
There are numerous historic mills in Idartal. Weitersbacher Mill is still operational and is right on the route.
Kappleifelsen
Near Laufersweiler we pass a unique juniper meadow with a Skudde sheep enclosure.
Laufersweiler
Laufersweiler is worth a look and is linked via a path. The sights there include an old synagogue (museum) and a Jewish cemetery.
Dill
In the attractive village of Dill there are renovated Hunsrück semi-timbered houses, a castle ruin from the 11th century and a protestant church from 1701.
Roman tower to north-east of Dill
After Dill the route goes over a Roman road with a reconstructed Roman watchtower.

The Saar-Hunsrück Climb is a natural path that runs on soft forest floor, grass paths or alongside streams for 65% of its route. But this special quality can result in problems after long periods of rain, making parts of the route more difficult to walk. We therefore recommend wearing sturdy shoes.Tips and hints
