Castle ruin Hohenbourg/F
Hohenburg castle is situated on the Schlossberg at a height of 550 metres, directly at the German-French border. It was built at the beginning of the 13th century by the house Puller of Hohenburg.

Hohenburg castle is situated on the Schlossberg at a height of 550 metres, directly at the German-French border. It was built at the beginning of the 13th century by the house Puller of Hohenburg. Through succession the castle went into the property of the house of Sickingen. At the beginning of the 16th century the Sickinger fortified Hohenbourg castle with a large battery tower. In 1523, the castle was destroyed in the feud of Sickingen, however the castle was reconstructed in renaissance style between 1547 and 1578. Like many other fortifications the complex was destroyed by the French in 1680 and has remained a ruin ever since. A gate leading to the main building decorated with lavish renaissance sculptures is particularly well preserved.
