After a few powerful pushes on the pedal, red magma is pumped through a tube. Then, there is hissing and steam, with white puffs emerging from the red glowing volcano peak. This is how close to reality vulcanologists are able to portray the events that shook the volcanic Eifel thousands of years ago.

After a few powerful pushes on the pedal, red magma is pumped through a tube. Then, there is hissing and steam, with white puffs emerging from the red glowing volcano peak. This is how close to reality vulcanologists are able to portray the events that shook the volcanic Eifel thousands of years ago.

It’s not only the technically refined interactive models that attract visitors to the Eifel Volcano Museum in Daun, with the occasional cry of astonishment. A range of exhibits brings new life to the geological history of volcanoes, some of which are still active. On information panels, the links between continental drift and the formation of the High Eifel landscape is explained in vivid detail. Three-dimensional models of cinder cones, maars and mineral sources offer in-depth insights into the Earth’s interior, which otherwise remains hidden.
