Albersweiler
The wine village Albersweiler is situated on the German Wine Route and in the biosphere reserve Palatinate Forest. The historic path through Albersweiler leads to interesting sights all over the village. The path starts at the train station, where possibilites for hiking, mountainbiking und cycling are offered as well. The vineyards are perfect for lovely walks. Especially gorgeous are many paths in the spring, when thanks to the mild climate, the almond trees bloom as early as March. Even otherwise, we find pure nature: the two nature reserves that surround the place are home to endangered lichens, mosses and grasshopper species.
The idyllic location Albersweiler is the starting point for many hikes through the Palatinate Forest, for Orensfels, for Hohenberg, to the ruin Neuscharfeneck , or on the trail "Pälzer Keschdeweg" (way of chestnuts) in one of the surrounding pretty wine villages . Nordic walking routes of varying difficulty provide attractive leisure opportunities. If you want to go by bicycle, you can comfortably ride the "Queichtalradweg" leading to the Rhine, or follow the more challenging mountainbike route 7 of the palatian Mountainbikepark.
Gently rising mountains frame the village that can look back through his district of St. Johann to over 1000 years of history. When excavation work was here remains of a Roman villa and the foundation of a church have been found from the Carolingian period. The earliest foundations date from the 8th century. The site can be visited. On the way you see the privately owned Rococo castle of the prince admired von Löwenstein-Wertheim. The house was built on the site of the 13th- century and repealed in the 16th century remorse gutter monastery. The remains of the 1687/88 established Albersweiler canal, which was used as a transport route for stones and other building materials in 1750,which were part of the fortified Queichlinie.
On the 3rd weekend in July, the winemakers of the village hoste the traditional wine festival. It takes place in the vineyards of St. Johann and offers a beautiful view over the valley up to the famous castle Trifels.
