Burgruine Baldenau ARGO

The Baldenau castle ruin, beautifully situated in the upper Dhron valley between Hundheim and Hinzerath, is the only former moated castle in Hunsrück. Baldenau Castle was built between 1312 and 1324 by Balduin of Luxembourg, Elector and Archbishop of Trier. Baldenau Castle also includes the "Stumpfe Turm" (blunt tower) on the Hunsrückhöhenstraße above the village of Hinzerath. From this ridge, one could recognize approaching dangers early on and warn the castle inhabitants in time. The first destruction of Baldenau Castle occurred during the Thirty Years' War. After its later restoration, it was destroyed a second time in 1689 during the so-called Palatinate War of Succession. In 1982, the remains of the castle were secured or partially restored and the 12-metre wide moat was uncovered, so that since then visitors have been able to rediscover the castle's typical features. The 25 m high keep and the massive castle walls are remarkable. In the inner courtyard you will discover, among other things, the former pavement, the cellar and the 8 m deep well. The Baldenau castle ruins are a very popular excursion destination for young and old, because its historical flair and idyllic surroundings invite you to stay, relax and explore. Hikers can discover the area around the Baldenau castle ruins on their hike on the Traumschleife LandZeitTour, which in September 2017 took second place on the most beautiful circular hiking trails. Its special ambience makes it a romantic place to get married and a popular film set. Various scenes for the film Schinderhannes with Curd Jürgens and Maria Schell as well as several parts of the HEIMAT films of the Morbach director Edgar Reitz were shot here.

Die Burgruine Baldenau, landschaftlich sehr schön im oberen Dhrontal zwischen Hundheim und Hinzerath gelegen, ist die einzige ehemalige Wasserburg im Hunsrück. Die Burg Baldenau wurde zwischen 1312 und 1324 von Balduin von Luxemburg, Kurfürst und Erzbischof von Trier, errichtet. Zur Burg Baldenau gehört auch der „Stumpfe Turm“ an der Hunsrückhöhenstraße oberhalb der Ortslage Hinzerath. Von diesem Höhenrücken aus konnte man herannahende Gefahren frühzeitig erkennen und die Burgbewohner rechtzeitig warnen. Die erste Zerstörung der Burg Baldenau erfolgte im Dreißigjährigen Krieg. Nach der späteren Wiederherstellung wurde sie 1689 im sogenannten Pfäl­zischen Erbfolgekrieg ein zweites Mal zerstört. Im Jahre 1982 wurden die Burgreste gesichert bzw. teilweise auch wieder hergestellt und der 12 m breite Wassergraben freigelegt, so dass die Besucher seitdem die typischen Anlagen der Burg wie­der entdecken können. Auffallend sind dabei der 25 m hohe Bergfried und die wuchtigen Burgmauern. Im Innenhof entdeckt man u. a. das ehemalige Pflaster, den Keller und den 8 m tiefen Brunnen. Die Burgruine Baldenau ist ein sehr beliebtes Ausflugsziel für Groß und Klein, denn ihr histo­risches Flair und die idyllische Umgebung laden zum Verweilen, Entspannen und Erkunden ein. Wanderer können das Gebiet rund um die Burgruine Baldenau auf ihrer Wanderung über die Traumschleife LandZeitTour, die im September 2017 den zweiten Platzen der schönsten Rundwanderwege belegte, entdecken. Ihr besonderes Ambiente macht sie zu einem romantischen Ort zum Heiraten und zu einer be­liebten Filmkulisse. So wurden hier sowohl verschiedene Szenen für den Film Schinderhannes mit Curd Jürgens und Maria Schell als auch etliche Teile der HEIMAT-Filme des Morbacher Regisseurs Edgar Reitz gedreht.
