The last waterwheel-driven gemstone grinding mill on the Idarbach River entertains its visitors with a gemstone exhibition, a multimedia show, a gemstone feeling room and a real gemstone mining site for children and adolescents.
Since as early as the 15th century, gemstone deposits have been processed in so-called grinding mills. Once there were 56 such mills on the Idarbach River, but over the years they were shut down one after the other. Large sandstone grinders are used to demonstrate the individual work steps that Bach (stream) grinders had to perform at the time. At the mineral prospecting site, children and adolescents can "mine" for minerals using large sand sieves.
The findings can then be machined on grinding wheels. Children can also split a gemstone geode in the middle to discover the inner beauty of the stone. The geode and the findings can of course be taken home. You can also go pedal boating at the gemstone grinding mill.
