The Schillerstein was erected in 1905 to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of the important German poet Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805). The location was originally on the right bank of the Nahe near the Schillersteg. In this area, the river bed was widened on the southern side in 1926 as part of the local regulation. The Schillerstein had to move to its current location, a former quarry terrace. The current location with its “Klingelrech” surroundings was used by the people of Kirn as a popular local recreation area until the B 41 was built at the end of the 1950s. The Kirn Beautification Association, with its chairman, Judicial Secretary Schwager, took care of the maintenance and design of the facility. Several shelters and an extensive system of hiking trails were popular facilities used to stay and relax.
