The Eifel pilgrim cycle path connects two significant church buildings: the Cistercian monastery of Himmerod and the pilgrimage church of Klausen.

The start of the cycle path is at Himmerod Monastery, which was founded by Bernard of Clairvaux in 1134. The baroque monastery church is particularly impressive. The peaceful surroundings of the monastery are what make Himmerod such a special place. From Himmerod, the route first leads to Großlittgen and on to the small Eifel villages of Minderlittgen and Hupperath. The Eifel pilgrim cycle path then leads through a wooded area to Bergweiler. Via Dreis, the route continues towards the Moselle until you reach Klausen.

The Klausen pilgrimage church "Maria Heimsuchung" was consecrated in 1502, but its history goes back much further: already in 1440, the Marian devotee Eberhard placed a figure of the " Painful Mother of God" at the current location of the pilgrimage church. Eberhard's bones still lie in a wooden shrine under the altar of the Chapel of Grace.
