Well-signposted circular route around the national park. Mainly routing over field and forest paths, there are still some coarsely graveled passages to be overcome. We are working on that

Wonderful circular route around the entire Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park. The tour leads to all national park gates (sometimes not directly on the route, but the access roads are well signposted), through quiet forest passages and stream valleys and again and again up to the Hunsrück heights with their great views. In several places there is the possibility to leave the circuit and shorten it via designated crossings through the national park. It should be noted that the crossings are sometimes significantly steeper than the actual round trip, and the road surface can also be more difficult to drive.

Author’s recommendation

It is essential to plan time for the national park gates, the water knowledge center, a picnic on the way and many other exciting points along the way

Turn-by-turn directions

The recorded track begins in Sensweiler and goes clockwise around the national park. However, this is purely coincidental and does not represent a recommendation, everyone will reach the route from different directions and can get on anywhere. If you come by car and bring your bike, you can, for example, come to the Hunsrückhaus am Erbeskopf and park there, alternatively, for example, at the Celtic ring wall in Otzenhausen or at the Wasser-Wissens-Werk in Katzenloch (Kempfeld).

Public transport

Public-transport-friendly

The Celtic ring wall in Otzenhausen is easily accessible by public transport, and the tour can be started here. Timetable at www.saarfahrplan.de, stop: Ringwall

Getting there

For example, if you want to drive to Erbeskopf by car and start cycling from there, take the B 327 or B 269 and follow the signs for "Wintersportzentrum Erbeskopf".

Parking

There are numerous free parking spaces along the route

Book recommendation by the author

Bike flyer of the national park region with a small overview map, to be ordered from ti@erbeskopf.de

Author’s map recommendations

Leisure map "All around the Erbeskopf" on a scale of 1: 35,000. The map covers the entire region, including cycling and hiking trails as well as excursion tips. It can be ordered for 5 € plus shipping costs at ti@erbeskopf.de

Equipment

Roadworthy bikes and helmets should go without saying. The tour is unsuitable for racing bikes as there are sections of gravel to overcome.
