The family-friendly Ruwer-Hochwald Cycle Route is one of the most distinctive railway line cycle routes in Rhineland-Palatinate, along with the Maare-Mosel and Schinderhannes Cycle Routes. It connects the Hunsrück heights through at the foot of the Hochwald through the winding and quiet Ruwer valley with the Moselle near Trier. The adventure playground in Reinsfeld and the numerous bridges make the cycle path also suitable for children.

From the train station in Hermeskeil, the route runs over the heights of the Hunsrück to Reinsfeld and over the watershed between Reinsfeld and Kell am See, which forms the highest point of the tour. From Niederkell and Waldrach, the cycle path leads away from the towns through the wooded nature and soon dips into the narrow, winding, quiet valley of the Ruwer. From here, the route goes steadily downhill over numerous bridges. You can get back to the starting point at weekends and during the holidays with the cycle bus line 222 Ruwer-Hochwald.
