Simmern train station

From Emmelshausen to Kastellaun, the trail leads as a "panorama route" in large loops through the idyllic Hunsrück landscape. New views open up again and again. Shortly after Emmelshausen, in the Leiningen district of Sauerbrunnen, the stately historic well house from 1898 (renovated in 1910) catches the eye. Here, the spring that gives the area its name was first tapped in 1780. After 9 km you reach Pfalzfeld. In Pfalzfeld, the replica of a Celtic flame column from the 5th century BC is worth seeing. We continue through the Hunsrück village of Lingerhahn (13 km) past the Dudenrother Schanze to Ebschied (17 km). We cycle to the castle town of Kastellaun (23 km).  On a high rock above the town lies the castle ruins of Kastellaun with the "House of Regional History". We can stroll through the restored old town at our leisure and browse in small shops. After Kastellaun, the landscape changes as we leave the "Kastellauner Mulde" in a 1.5 km climb. From here to Simmern, the trail continues gently downhill. We next reach the village of Bell (25 km). In the nearby animal adventure park Bell there are animal attractions for young and old. Near the Bell railway station, a well-preserved Iron Age chariot grave from 500 BC was discovered in a tumulus field. The Ilse manganese ore mine was also located in the immediate vicinity of the cycle path. Today the tunnels are closed down, but the spoil heaps can still be seen. In Hasselbach, the old schoolhouse houses a doll and toy museum where toys from the past 150 years are on display. Via Alterkülz (27 km) we cycle on to Neuerkirch (32 km). The centre of the picturesque village of Neuerkirch offers a cultural history museum and an art barn in addition to renovated half-timbered houses typical of the Hunsrück. The museum consists of a residential house and a barn building. In the art barn you will find a painter's and ceramics studio with temporary exhibitions. We follow the Külzbach valley and cross the 50th parallel between Külz and Keidelheim. Shortly afterwards we reach our destination: the town of Simmern (38 km).
