From the parking lot in Kusel, 1.5 km – trail marks: a white "R" on a yellow background = feeder path to Winterhelle.
From Winterhelle a further 12.9 km – trail marks: a white "R" on a blue background - main trail with access to the "Pfälzer Höhenweg".
Along the way, romantically-situated forest benches invite you to sit down and enjoy these views.
All along the trail there are opportunities for refreshments and snacks.
A visit to the family vault of the Counts of Veldenz is possible all year round by appointment.
An extended visit to the wildlife park "Potzberg" and Greifvogelzoo should not be missed whilst walking the trail. Covering an area of about 30 ha you will be able to see ibexes, sika and red deer, fallow deer and mouflons, elks, wild boars and wild horses. There is also a breeding station for more than 120 birds of prey and a children’s zoo. A round tour of 4 kilometres takes you around the park followed by a free-span wooden bridge leading to the grandstand in front of the central feeding area.
The bird’s air show, daily at 15.00 hrs, is with eagles, vultures and falcons - at the weekend children can also participate.
On request, the air show can be held in English.
Especially in the autumn, you should be careful since fallen leaves can hide tree roots, rocks or holes in the road. You should be prepared for path impairments of this kind when taking this trail hike. If, on the route, you get the feeling that it is starting to get to dangerous then you should not hesitate to turn back. Especially in adverse weather conditions, it may get extremely muddy and slippery .
