A hike to fall in love with! This idyllic tour leads through dense woodland along wild streams and rivers that originate in the plateau of the Hohes Venn.

From the first few meters the path leads into a beautiful landscape. The path overlooks the valley formed by the Weser. A nice start before you walk along the Eschbach, a wide river that meanders between the conifers and gives the area a certain Rio flair of the High North. This impression is intensified in winter when the river adorns itself with its white dress.

The path climbs up again and the surroundings become wilder and wilder. The more you enter this area, the more the coniferous forest withers until only a few trees appear. Later, the forest disappears completely and the vast heathland of the eastern Hohes Venn appears. This side of the Hohes Venn is less known, but perhaps even rougher. The route approaches the Venn and follows a path along the stream. At an altitude of 500 m you can clearly feel the low temperature of the plateau. Water is also your constant companion on the way back, as it runs along the banks of the equally lively stone river.

Author’s recommendation

Relax after the tour in the Roetgenthermen. Sauna and wellness fans will find everything their heart desires.

I dont understand the hype around this trail, I didnt see anything special. Could be that the weather was not that good, I dont know. The mid section between the upper and the lower loop is by far the best part of the hike, the rest is not the interesting. When you start the bottom loop make sure you follow the trail next to the stream. (I lost my way here a bit). There is a nice little cafe at the end of the trail, they have really good apple pie and coffee. This is an easy route, no sweats.
