Burgberg-Rundweg (city walk)
Up to now, 19 late Roman mountain fortifications above the Moselle can be proven. Landshut Castle was probably the first of its kind, namely handed down by the geographer of Ravenna as "Princastellum" and giving its name to the later Bernkastel. The castle in Bernkastel was partly overbuilt by the medieval core castle - whose ruins we can still see today.
Insights into the walk:
The castle ruins of Landshut are enthroned majestically above the old town of Bernkastel-Kues. It can be reached on foot from the historic market place in Bernkastel in about 30 minutes. The ascent over a serpentine path in the vineyards is pithy, but offers great views! Once you have arrived at the castle there is a lot to discover. Because in 2012, during routine work, spectacular discoveries were made, which suggest that in these remains of the ruins the "Princastellum", handed down by the geographer of Ravenna, can be seen. It would thus be the first mountain fortification of the Moselle valley. On the way back we pass the Schützenhaus.
