Turn-by-turn directions
Continue leisurely on the red wine hiking trail through the vineyards, past the Altenwegshof and the Förster's Wein-Terrassen - both with beautiful terraces overlooking the vines.
The next vantage point already beckons: the Fischley along with its refuge. From here you look out over a sea of trees and the rocky outcrop of the Bunte Kuh.
You continue along the red wine hiking trail and pass the Marienthal monastery. Amidst the picturesque backdrop of the former Augustinian convent, a wonderful inn with courtyard, winery and wine sales awaits you.
Once you have turned right onto the path from the road in front of the monastery, you will already be standing in front of the former main entrance to the government bunker. The bunker complex was once the most secret and expensive project of the Federal Republic of Germany. Today you can visit parts of the Government Bunker Documentation Centre with a guided tour. At the end of the hike you will pass directly by the museum.
The route continues past fruit trees, vineyards and fish ponds into the forest. At the end of a long ascent, you will stand in front of the Holzweiler Kreuz. Now your view sweeps over wide fields to the Siebengebirge. Continue across the plateau, along the edge of the forest and finally reach your next stage destination - the EVA tower on the Silberberg. Now you descend towards Bad Neuanahr-Ahrweiler, which you can already see through the forest. Slowly, the vineyards return and accompany you to the end of the tour. You reach the entrance to the government bunker documentation site and walk below the beautifully situated Hohenzollern restaurant on vineyard paths back to the starting point. Here on the wine-growing trail, you can expand your knowledge of Ahr wine and enjoy wonderful views of Ahrweiler.
