Vineyards and forest in one hike. The tour leads from Kallstadt along the Riesling hiking trail, first through the vineyards towards Annaberg, and then through the forest - always slightly uphill - to the forester's lodge "In der Weilach". From here, various forest trails start, e.g. to the Bismarck Tower and to the Lindemannsruhe forester's lodge. The route is not separately signposted.

Safety information

The trail leads for the most part on unpaved forest ground. Watch out for roots, rocks and stones so that you don't lose your footing. In the vineyards, the route runs on farm tracks. Please give priority to agricultural traffic. Due to agricultural use, the paths may be dirty. After rainy days and especially in spring, autumn and winter, the paths can be wet and therefore slippery.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the Platz der 100 Weine, opposite St. Salvator Church, walk along Leistadter Straße to the end of the village, where you turn left into Backhausgasse. You are now on the Riesling hiking trail (blue stele with yellow wine glass). Follow this path around the small lake and up the hill. Here you will see the protective roof of the excavation site "Villa am Weilberg" a little below. Stay on the Rieslingweg and walk above the villa to the right in a westerly direction with a view of the Palatinate Forest. Cross the road (attention: no crossing aid) and continue straight on past the Annaberg hotel/restaurant (refreshment stop). Before the edge of the forest, turn left onto the paved path (initially without signs). Continue straight ahead. You are now on the Bad Dürkheim circular trail "Pfalz Wein Pfade Pfälzerwald - Spielbergblick" (marking: trail logo with amphora).  After approx. 700 m in a southerly direction, turn right at the crossroads, walk towards the edge of the forest, pass the houses at the edge of the forest and then turn right into the forest to the Schützenhaus and on to the Weilach hikers' car park. From here, the short circular trail Ruine Weilach leads you clockwise first to the PWV hut in the Weilach and then to the forester's lodge. At the forester's lodge, walk a short distance to the left along the road in a northerly direction. After approx. 200 m, turn right into the forest path and follow it until you reach the dog sports club. Walk past the club and turn right after the left-hand bend into the grassy path and continue straight ahead to the Weinstraße hiking trail (marked with a green grape stalk). Shortly afterwards, you will meet up with the Rieslingweg again. Cross the road at the same point as on the way there, but then turn right and immediately left again. You pass the Römerkelter (grape treading basin) and can already see the Roman Weilberg vineyard above you on the left, where you meet the junction of the path that led you from Kallstadt. The return route is the same as the outward route, via the Kallstadt lake and the Backhausgasse to the starting point, the tourist information office at the Platz der 100 Weine.
