The Drachenfels with its striking top rock is the destination of this hike.  As a typical Wasgau rock castle, the ruin is both culturally and historically very interesting, as well as because of its magnificent view.

Via paved farm roads, the route leads without major climbs to the Drachenfels. On the way you can expect many changing panoramas with beautiful views over the village of Busenberg and the landscape. Benches invite you to rest. Via the Jewish cemetery Busenberg (information board), whose visit is also worthwhile and past the Weißensteinerhof, we head straight for the Drachenfels over wide, open areas.

A small ascent from the Drachenfelshütte and we have already reached the imposing walls. Continue through the castle courtyard and around the west rock of the Drachenfels.

Safety information

Despite the "unflowable" marking of the premium hiking trails, we recommend for safety reasons to always have a corresponding hiking map with you, so that you can quickly find a safe area in the event of a thunderstorm or an emergency, for example.

Especially in autumn, it is also important to make sure that the foliage lying on the ground can cover unevenness, roots, stones or holes in the way. After storms, trees can fall or branches can fall down afterwards. Especially in adverse weather conditions, muddy and slippery passages can occur on near-natural paths. You have to reckon with path impairments of this kind when you go on a hike. Not all rocks or abyss are secured with ropes or handrails. In some cases, security is required. If you believe that certain parts of the path are not accessible to you, you should avoid them.
