The dream loop has a varied route: Sometimes along the banks of the Nahe, in the forest and along steep rock faces. Directly on the banks of the Nahe, you reach the remains of the “Hoppstätter agate loop”, also known as the agate loop in the Burr. Built on this site in 1850, the grinding mill consisted of two houses and four grinding stones.

The path continues uphill in serpentines in the forest. There, an information board signals that you have arrived at the remains of the former “Villa Rustica”. Numerous pottery shards, fragments of a water pipe, slate slabs suggest that the house was covered with slate. Iron fittings, iron keys as well as fragments of wine amphorae all indicate that the Villa Rustica existed between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD. After crossing under the railway Saarbrücken-Mainz line, we have a great view of the opposite rock face of the “Kammerwoog-Krechelsfels nature reserve”.

Turn-by-turn directions

The approx. 6.2-kilometre-long circular trail “Around the Kama” starts 100 metres from the car park at Restaurant Kammerhof.

Between steep cliffs and the Nahe River, we hike along the rock faces. Afterwards we walk in the forest, always keeping the Nahe in sight. Directly on the banks of the Nahe we reach the old Hoppstätt agate loop and a little further on the former excavation site of a Roman villa. Information boards provide information about the background of this double loop and the excavations.

After a short climb, we find ourselves on the way to Enzweiler. Pass the refuge, continue past some houses to reach the sports field and follow the path to the right. Above the Nahe Valley, with a view of the Nahe flowing deep below and Hammerstein, we continue our walk. On forest and meadow ground, the path brings us once again into the Nahe Valley and we walk parallel along the Nahe. After crossing under the railway line, we come to a sensory bench with a great view of the opposite rock face of the Kammerwoog-Krechelsfels nature reserve. We cross the Nahe over the blue cycle path bridge and if you want to enjoy more than just the view of the Krechelsfelsen, you can take a detour to the Krechelsfels (marked Zuweg = access route).

Otherwise, it continues almost along the bank of the Nahe and again a short way uphill.

A shady forest path takes us to the Nahe weir. At the weir we cross the Nahe again and arrive at the starting point a few minutes later.

Equipment

Hiking footwear essential!

Our tips for carefree hiking fun

Hiking is the perfect sport. With the right clothes and shoes, it's twice as much fun. Functional clothing, poles and breathable backpacks are good choices when hiking. But good footwear is indispensable. Sturdy jogging or leisure shoes are at best only suitable for short distances on flat paths. For longer walks, we recommend sturdy hiking boots with non-slip soles. Also remember to take sunscreen and a drink. A litre of water is best. For longer routes we recommend a packed lunch because there is not always somewhere to stop off.
