An idyllic forest and meadow circular trail, which not only has the Afelskreuz cross with its fairytale chapel as a highlight, but also offers magnificent panoramas.

The trail starts in the centre of Sarmersbach. After a short while, the first highlight appears: the "Schloscheid" viewpoint with its magnificent panoramic view.

Downhill again, the fresh Eifel wind offers a nice cooling and gives you enough energy again to walk up the path to the Afelskreuz.Further on, an idyllic, mossy forest path leads to the viewpoint " Weiherheide", which started in autumn 2015 as a renaturation project " Weiherheide".

Insider tip: After 6.8, it is worth making a detour to the church of St. Hubertus Hilgerath (walking distance approx. 0.25 km).

Sehr schöne Runde. Hab mich früh von Wegweiser "Panoramabank", irritieren lassen und hab dadurch 30 Minuten dazu gewonnen😅 Die lag später fast am Wegestand. Viele Bänke zum ausruhen und gut ausgeschildert. schade das die Kirche abgeschlossen war,wo man einen Abstecher zu machen konnte. Das Afelskreuz und die kleine Kapelle,der Rastplatz dazu ist schön gemacht. Schön auch das man in der Kapelle Kerzen kaufen kann zum anzünden.Beim wandern denkt man an sowas nicht .

Leichte, körperlich nicht so anstrengende Wanderstrecke in der Vulkaneifel. Sicherlich auch für ungeübte Wanderer locker machbar. Gerade heute zeigte sich das Wetter von verschiedenen Seiten….. Starker, eiskalter Wind, windstille Waldpassage und sonnige Abschnitte durch Feld und Wiese. Alles in allem eine ordentliche Strecke. Der kurze Abstecher (ca. 300m) zur XXL Panoramabank lohnt sich definitiv und ist eigentlich ein MUSS. Wäre doch auch eine Idee, dieses Highlight in den Weg zu integrieren?! Ausreichende Rast- und Ruhemöglichkeiten entlang des Weges vorhanden.
