The Burberg in Schutz is the namesake of this hike. The unique volcanic mountain offers cultural treasures due to the remains of a Roman fortification from the 4th century.

The tour starts in the small village of Schutz, directly at the St. Wendelin Chapel. The route continues for about 8 km through the forest to Deudesfeld. The small idyllic fish pond behind Deudesfeld invites you to take a short break. The unspoilt nature around Schutz is a real hiking experience that will stay in your memory. The Speicherbach now accompanies the hiker for several kilometres of the trail until it flows into the Kleine Kyll.

Insider tip: Plan a detour to the Burberg shortly after the start (footpath about 1.4 km). From the very top you have a fantastic view.

The Burberg, also known as Burgberg, Buerberg or Schutzer Kopf, rises in the Volcanic Eifel Nature Park. It originated as a volcano about 11,000 years ago.

Highlights along the way:

• 0.4 km view of Burberg
