Hiwweltour Bismarckturm
Forest, vineyards and vastness - the Hiwweltour Bismarckturm between Ingelheim and Gau-Algesheim leads through a nature reserve and one of Rheinhessen's most famous vineyards.
Hike on the Hiwweltour Bismarckturm in the nature reserve Gau-Algesheimer Kopf, through the Welzbach valley to the famous vineyard Hundertgulden. On the way, the entertaining alternation of forest passages, hedge-lined path sections and open spaces, with countless panoramic views of the Rhine and the Rheingau, is captivating. Ingelheim, Gau-Algesheim and Appenheim offer three entry points, which are worth a visit with their historic town centers and the range of refreshment options.

Right at the beginning, the Bismarck Tower, which is freely accessible during the day, offers a beautiful panoramic view of Ingelheim and the Rheingau. From a new perspective, this view can be enjoyed at the edge of the slope. Afterwards, the path, surrounded by lush vegetation, winds through the forest to the GAGA refuge. From here, the next panorama is to the Laurenziberg all the way to the Binger Loch. The path now descends towards Gau-Algesheim.
As soon as the vineyard zone is reached, the town is within reach. The Hiwweltour swings slightly uphill again at the junction of the southern access path. After 2.8 km, the descent into the Welzbach valley begins, where numerous mills once harnessed the power of the water. At the level of the grill hut, we cross the stream and hike to the nearby wine village of Appenheim, whose village center can be reached by the access road. After passing the 100 Guldenmühle (refreshment stop), the tour gains altitude and leads directly through the famous Appenheimer Hundertgulden vineyard. A break at the table of wine is worthwhile after the ascent, before we reach the plateau via a stair path and hike into the nearby forest. A short access path leads to the geoecological nature trail, which draws attention to the salamander holes at this point. An informative board explains everything worth knowing about this important geotope.
The trail then continues almost level through the species-rich forest of the Gau-Algesheimer Kopf nature reserve. As soon as the Hiwweltour reaches the first fields, the wide view up to the Feldberg attracts attention, before it goes past the Hofgut Waldeck back to the Bismarck Tower. Alternatively, Gau-Algesheim with its historic marketplace and Ingelheim with the imperial palace of Charlemagne offer further opportunities to linger.
