"The opportunity to enjoy a great landscape in peace and quiet , while meditating and thinking about the growth and decay of nature and the insignificance of one's self". This was what the initiator of this trail had in mind so that hikers could find the way back to their senses and can satisfy their longing for mindfulness and a deceleration of their lives. But not only lovers of nature but also those of you interested in culture, history and religion will be rewarded by the landmarks of this trail. The Kapellenpilgerweg leads past churches and chapels, crossing a splendid landscape between deep forests and vineyards and offers wonderful views past castles and ruins right up to the border to France. Pastor Unkrich, one of the initiators of this trail, sees the Kapellenpilgerweg as a way to bring the body, mind and soul back into harmony with each other"Just enjoy the peace and quite on the way to finding your own very personal oasis "!

Safety information

The following generally applies:

In autumn in particular, it is important to remember that leaves lying on the ground can hide bumps, roots, stones and holes in the path. Trees can topple and branches can fall down after thunderstorms and rainstorms. Natural paths can become muddy and slippery, especially in poor weather conditions. Not all rocks and precipices are secured with ropes or railings. You need to be sure-footed in certain areas. Damage to paths of this kind is to be expected on hikes. If you feel that certain sections of the path are not passable for you, please avoid them.

NOTE:

We endeavour to announce all closures due to forest work or hunting parties on this platform. Nevertheless, sometimes there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a road closure or diversion, please follow the instructions for your own safety.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the Nikolaus kapelle we can see the Burg Landeck, which is accessible via a well-made path. Following this, we then leave the vineyards, and walk through the diversity of the Palatinate Forest. Having climbed up the 487 m high Abtskopf, we can stop at the forest tavern of the Karlsplatz. Between the Abtskopf and the ruins of the Lindelbrunn, a detour to the "Friedenskapelle", situated above Birkenhördt, is imperative. The Waldgasthaus Cramer forest tavern now invites you to have a rest and perhaps enjoy something to eat and drink (overnight accommodation also available). From here, you can have a walk up to the ruins of the Lindelbrunn, past the ev. Jugendhaus, and enjoy a panoramic view of a special nature.

Equipment

We recommend the following equipment as standard for our hiking tours:

Sturdy shoes

Clothing suitable for the weather

Sun and rain protection

Sufficient quantity of food and drink, as refreshment stops or shopping facilities are not always available or open.

Although the paths are very well marked throughout, for safety reasons it is always advisable to carry a suitable hiking map so that you can quickly find your way to a safe area in the event of a thunderstorm or emergency.
