"The opportunity to enjoy a great landscape in peace and quiet , while meditating and thinking about the growth and decay of nature and the insignificance of one's self". This was what the initiator of this trail had in mind so that hikers could find the way back to their senses and can satisfy their longing for mindfulness and a deceleration of their lives. But not only lovers of nature but also those of you interested in culture, history and religion will be rewarded by the landmarks of this trail. The Kapellenpilgerweg leads past churches and chapels, crossing a splendid landscape between deep forests and vineyards and offers wonderful views past castles and ruins right up to the border to France. Pastor Unkrich, one of the initiators of this trail, sees the Kapellenpilgerweg as a way to bring the body, mind and soul back into harmony with each other"Just enjoy the peace and quite on the way to finding your own very personal oasis "!

Safety information

The following generally applies: In autumn in particular, it is important to remember that leaves lying on the ground can hide bumps, roots, stones and holes in the path. Trees can topple and branches can fall down after thunderstorms and rainstorms. Natural paths can become muddy and slippery, especially in poor weather conditions. Not all rocks and precipices are secured with ropes or railings. You need to be sure-footed in certain areas. Damage to paths of this kind is to be expected on hikes. If you feel that certain sections of the path are not passable for you, please avoid them. NOTE: We endeavour to announce all closures due to forest work or hunting parties on this platform. Nevertheless, sometimes there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a road closure or diversion, please follow the instructions for your own safety.

Turn-by-turn directions

From Schweigen, we go along the edge of the Haardt back into the Palatinate Forest and on to Staufer castle of Burg Guttenberg. Only the keep remains in these ruins and from the highest point of the trail, you can look over the Mundatwald and over the Rhine valley. Great views are also to be enjoyed from the Stäffelsbergturm on your way to the Kolmerbergkapelle. The chapel is a popular place of pilgrimage and the former hermits apartments now serve as a place to stay for groups. In Dörrenbach there is the fortified church of St. Martin, a dual church dating back to  1684/85. The oldest part, the lower choir, dates back to the period around 1300. In Bad Bergzabern there are three churches - the Market Church, Bergkirche and St. Martin's Church, where Edith Stein was canonized.

Equipment

We recommend the following equipment as standard for our hiking tours:

Sturdy shoes

Clothing suitable for the weather

Sun and rain protection

Sufficient quantity of food and drink, as refreshment stops or shopping facilities are not always available or open.

Although the paths are very well marked throughout, for safety reasons it is always advisable to carry a suitable hiking map so that you can quickly find your way to a safe area in the event of a thunderstorm or emergency.

Schöne, abwechslungsreiche Tour in typisch Pfälzerwald hügeligen Gelände. Wir haben allerdings eine Variante gewählt und sind in Dörrenbach über Oberotterbach zurück zum Winter gelaufen. Highlight: Trotz Corona Lockdown konnten wir einem Winzer Prosecco und zwei Gläser entlocken. - Einfach Pfalz!
