Even if it is not easy to leave the beautiful little town of Limburg your farewell will be richly rewarded. The Grafenschloss Diez high above the Lahn and the town itself welcome you to spend some time here. Fachingen is especially well-known for the water with the same name. With a significant market share, it is the most important source of medicinal water in Germany. The Franzosenley and the Katzenkopp are magnificent vantage points. In Balduinstein with its beautiful Lahn promenade, you can round off the day with a glass of Fachinger water or with a fine beer.

The museum in the Grafenschloss is worth a visit.

Turn-by-turn directions

The stage starts at the station forecourt in Limburg. Follow the Lahnwanderweg trail signpost and the markings in the direction of Diez. First you go through the town up to the Schafsberg. From here, the trail descends again, crosses the railway tracks and then continues through meadows and fields. In the Diezer Hain you will find a vantage point: The Teufelskanzel. Afterwards, you walk along the fence of the German Army barracks Schloss Oranienstein. The castle itself can only be visited with a guided tour and on specified dates. Please check in advance!

By following the markings, you now walk on through the Diezer Hain and downwards to the Grafenschloss which is nowadays used as a youth hostel and houses the Museum für Stadt- und Regionalgeschichte. Those who were not happy to leave Limburg and its medieval alleys will certainly be delighted in Diez again. From the Grafenschloss you walk downhill to the picturesque market square of the town.

Then the Lahnwanderweg trail leads steeply uphill to the outskirts of Diez. Here, a wooden lounger invites you to take a break with panorama. Continue in the direction of Fachingen, where a viewing pavilion provides a beautiful view of the small village. Everyone thinks of water when talking about Fachingen because "Fachinger" is a special healing water with a long tradition. Stairs lead down to the railway station. Next you walk parallel to the river Lahn through fresh meadow ground to the Fachinger Grundstollen.

From here, the tour climbs uphill in serpentines. The Franzosenley with its viewing pavilion right above the Lahn is a fantastic location for a rest. You can have a longer stay here, because the destination of the stage is quite close. Through forest and fields you reach Hausen. In the village, turn right downhill to the Katzenkopp vantage point where you have a wonderful view of the Lahn and towards the destination of the stage. Balduinstein with its beautiful Lahn promenade, half-timbered houses and old masonry invites you to finish the stage in a relaxing way.
