Turn-by-turn directions
Then you walk along a path through the forest to the Hohe Lay viewing rock. Using a metal staircase, you can get to the viewing platform with a view of Arnstein monastery and Langenau castle. On a forest path and passing another beautiful view of the Lahn valley, you walk on downhill to Nassau. In Nassau, with its pretty town hall, we cross the Lahn on the large bridge, keep right along the road for a short distance and next, follow the trail to the left up to the Burg Stein.
If you have the time and feel like making a detour of about 700 m to Nassau castle, you will enjoy the beautiful view from the top. The Lahnwanderweg trail now leads downhill along a path that passes the Freiherr-vom-Stein memorial. Afterwards, the trail climbs steeply up to the magnificent Kuxlay viewpoint, where the river Lahn can be admired from the other side.
Now we continue downhill to Dausenau. We recommend leaving the Lahnwanderweg trail for a short while to stroll through the picturesque town center with the second oldest Gothic half-timbered town hall in Germany. You can also visit the Schiefe Turm. After having visited the town you will come along the Ackertsturm and the Ackertspforte and follow a hilltop path to the Concordiaturm with its viewing platform.
You will pass numerous vantage points while the trail zigzags downhill to Bad Ems via the Bäderlei. But before, the Heinzelmannshöhlen will be surprising and finally the way leads through a parking garage! A very rare thing, to be sure, on Germany's hiking trails. The destination of this stage is the grand Kurhaus located directly on the banks of the Lahn. It tells us: Bad Ems has a long-standing cure tradition!
