Please note that this circular route is not signposted, the directions serve as a navigation aid. The tour begins in the center of Maikammer, initially through the village and then along the pathways to the edge of the forest and back into the village. It's an easy hike on mostly paved trails. Since only about 90 meters of altitude can be mastered, it is also suitable for hiking with a stroller.

Author’s recommendation

If you take the tour with the app, you will learn a lot of information about all wayside shrines and crossings, e.g. about the history, when the monument was built or who the founder was. A filled picnic backpack is recommended as there are some nice resting places.

Maikammer Frantzplatz

Turn-by-turn directions

The starting point of the circular route is Frantzplatz (the square is named after the former mayor of the municipality) in Maikammer. With Frantzplatz behind you, turn left and then immediately left into Immengartenstrasse. Here is the first wayside shrine in Immengarten on the corner of Blumenstrasse. Turn left into Bahnhofstrasse through Blumenstrasse and Poststrasse. At the corner of Weinstrasse there is a floor cross at the upper Bahnhofstrasse cross. After the left bend there is a small path on the right side of the road. Follow the Pädel into a residential area and straight ahead to Diedesfelder Straße. Follow this left until you reach the Maikammer cemetery. There is a stone cross in the cemetery. Continue on Friedhofstrasse to the right to the Alsterweiler Chapel, in front of which the mission cross in Alsterweiler is located. Now it's back to Friedhofstraße, but not after a few meters towards the cemetery, but straight ahead towards the vineyards. In a hairpin bend in front of a family house is the wayside shrine in the upper sow. It goes on to the left, past a small playground to the hall cross in the lower ground. Now right into the sea of vines to the wayside shrine in the upper ground. Here on the right and the next path immediately to the left until the wayside shrine appears in the lime kiln at the next intersection. Now right and then the next dirt road on the right. After a few meters you will find the cross in the Vogelsang at a very nice picnic area with a view of Hambach Castle. Back on the concrete path to the right slightly uphill and at the next crossroads left to the wayside shrine on the middle heath. After a few meters the wayside shrine comes in the upper Dürkheimer. At this intersection, turn left onto the Deutsche Weinstrasse hiking trail. After a few meters there is a fantastic view of the Rhine plain and Maikammer. There are various rest tables and benches at this point. It goes straight on, over Kalmithöhenstraße to the Alsterbrunnen made of sandstone. Then left into the next corridor and after a few meters you will see the Humm shrine in Alsterweiler with its beautiful gold crown at the large parking lot. Now keep right and immediately left again and you have already reached the cross on the Heldwiesen. At the next crossroads right, up the hill until the impressive floor cross Christ in the winepress can be seen on the middle hero and straight ahead. From here, turn right at the second Wingertweg crossing and then take the next left. On the street there is the “Weißes Kreuz” cross at Sankt Martin. After crossing the K32, it goes slightly downhill to the left and at the next junction is the five-wound cross in the Ackerbrückenweg on the left side of the road. The path continues on the right side of the road until the Mühlweg and the Red Cross field cross can be seen on the left in the front Wolfsloch. Cross the street here. Now straight ahead to St. Martiner-Strasse. This on the right and after a few meters on the left is the wayside shrine in the upper Erb. This is followed by a 180 ° turn and stay on St. Martiner-Straße until the cross on the Weyhergässel is in front of an impressive half-timbered house at the corner of Weiher-Straße. Cross the market square into Marktstrasse, turn right into the courtyard of the wine chamber and follow the small footpath past the community center, then turn left and you have reached the last station of the hike, the last floor cross Schultheiß Tretter. Opposite is the end of the tour at Frantzplatz.
