In Bad Breisig there are numerous mineral springs containing CO².

Hiking trail 6 starts at the Römer-Thermen, the Geyersprudel. After a short walk, you will reach the Mariensäule. The Mariensprudel was once the most productive spring in Bad Breisig. The flow rate was 200 000 litres/h. The water was drilled in 1927 at a depth of 630 metres by Mr Martin Schuh. As early as 1928 it fed Germany's first thermal outdoor pool. The water temperature was 33 degrees.

The Marian Column was erected as a token of gratitude when the well began to pump water again after it had dried up due to earth movements during the Second World War. The wife of the owner promised to erect a statue of the Virgin Mary if the well was reopened. In 1952 the reactivation was successful and the son Willy Schuh fulfilled the promise of his mother, who has meanwhile passed away.

At the end of the hike you can stop off in the centre of Bad Breisig and on the Rhine promenade.

Turn-by-turn directions

Behind the Römer-Thermen and the car park of the tennis courts, there is the entrance to the forest. After a short climb, turn left along a forest path to the statue of the Virgin Mary, which offers the hiker beautiful views of the Rhine valley. The path runs past the youth centre and meeting place. The trail continues to the next crossroads, where the trail turns half left up the Augustenhöhe. At the top is the "Kölner Haus", a hut of the Eifelverein. The hiking trail turns right and goes downhill through the Friedwald forest. As the trail continues, it leaves the forest briefly at Sebastian-Kneipp-Straße. Here turn right again into the forest and after about 30 metres follow a narrow path on the left.

After a short time you reach the Fichtelhütte, which offers a wonderful view of the Rhine valley and the "Goldene Meile". The path passes the Fichtelhütte and then turns downhill on a steep path until you reach a larger forest path. The path then turns left with a slight descent and ends with a transition to Marienstraße. At the end of the road turn sharp right, continue straight ahead along the Eifelstraße and you will reach the Römer-Thermen again.
