Schessels Beersche near Thörlingen rediscovered and uncovered by a hiking groupOver a period of several months and with a great deal of heart and soul, the seniors of the Thörlingen hiking group have brought an old fountain in the Thörlingen forest back to life and at the same time created a new hiking trail. The old fountain, called "Schessels Beersche", is also mentioned in the Thörlingen chronicle and probably served as a watering place for humans and animals in former times. The watering place has the shape of a small bowl, hence the name "Schessels Beersche". The small fountain was completely buried during road construction work a few years ago and had almost fallen into oblivion. Now the senior citizens of Thörlingen have uncovered it and the water can flow again. The square in front of it has been redesigned, drained and a small resting bench with a table invites you to linger. During the work of uncovering and thus the rebirth of "Schessels Beersche", the idea of creating a new hiking trail, the "Schessels Beersche" loop, was born among the hiking enthusiasts. In the Vorderhunsrück with its wild romantic valleys Baybachtal and Ehrbachtal there are many beautiful hiking trails for the whole family. This new loop is another attraction in the Upper Baybach Valley. The start and finish of the almost six-kilometer-long circular trail is at the chapel in Thörlingen. First, the trail leads along a farm road down into the Baybach Valley. Here, the loop at "Strieders Mühle" joins the dream loop "Oberes Baybachtal". On the hiking trail, which is very well signposted with its own logo, you pass the "Sohnsmühle" and the so-called "Rutsch". After about 300 meters you cross the Baybach on a wooden bridge, which was also built by the hiking group. There the paths "Oberes Baybachtal" and "Schessels Beersche" separate again. Always following the signs, the hiker reaches "Schessels Beersche" after about one kilometer. Before arriving there, one must first descend ten steps made of boulders to reach a rocky outcrop in which the small bowl has been carved. When you leave the place, you have to go up again 17 steps. The stairs were created by a Thörlingen pensioner and hiking enthusiast all by himself. After about 400 meters you can rest on the "Hoch-Ley". On this nearly 400 meter high rock, a new seating area has been set up and a wooden cross erected. When the forest thins out in autumn, you can see the stadium in Emmelshausen from there. At the next bench the hiker has a clear view to the "Hohe Acht" in the Eifel. After a short distance, there is another opportunity to pause, namely at a wayside shrine on the height between Thörlingen and Bickenbach. This location offers a beautiful panoramic view of Emmelshausen with the districts of Basselscheid and Liesenfeld as well as the villages of Schwall and Dörth. This is also where the loop "Schessels Beersche" reunites with the dream loop "Oberes Baybachtal". Now it is only one kilometer to the finish at the Thörlingen chapel. The seniors of the Thörlingen hiking group were promised financial support of around 1,100 euros by the Hunsrück Regional Council's Local Action Group Economy for their voluntary commitment. After seeing what is being created, however, the hiking friends received significant support not only from the Regional Council for Economic Affairs, but also from the village community, the local council and, last but not least, the Emmelshausen tourist information office. For example, a family man from Thörlingen built and donated a bench with a table himself. Also a family from Emmelshausen donated a bench with table in cooperation with the Kreissparkasse. The employees of the tourist information Emmelshausen have designed and procured the logo for the signage. The hiking enthusiasts were also pleased that the hunting leaseholder of the municipality supported and promoted the creation of the hiking trail through the Thörling forest. In the retrospect it is an all around successful work and we are extraordinarily pleased that we were allowed to experience this various support, so Günther Liesenfeld of the hiking group Thörlingen. Another and certainly unique highlight on the new hiking trail are display boards with poems by the Thörlingen poet Rudi Alexius, which have been set up at prominent points along the route. The display boards were also lovingly designed and built by a hiking enthusiast.
