This magical hiking trail really lives up to its name. The 7.7 km circular route starts off at the 'Frau Holle' (Mother Hulda) rock formation and goes through dense forests, passing by the gorgeous courses of the Lauschbach and Wadrill streams. The high point is the beaver dam at the Keller Steg. This route, parts of which coincide with the Saar-Hunsrück Climb, is quite short and only includes one ascent, which makes it suitable for unpractised walkers, too.
This hiking trail has been awarded 76 points in the certification by the German Hiking Institute.
The rock formation that gave the hiking trail its name is found at the beginning of the tour: Frau Holle. This is the name of a rock formation in the lower part of which, according to Germanic folklore, the eyes of Frau Holle can be seen. The valley of the Wadrill opens up and you cross the narrow stream over a footbridge. Behind it follows the only major ascent of the entire tour. On the steep ascent to the Taubenberg, 100 metres in altitude have to be overcome. The trail leads along the ridge over a narrow path littered with countless roots into the coniferous forest typical of the Hochwald. Jungle-like images emerge, dark path passages are repeatedly crossed by glistening sunlight. In the valley, the Lauschbach flows like a giant lindworm, winding its way through the dark pine in many small and large meanders. At the bottom of the valley, you follow the stream until you reach the Keller Steg. Here the Lauschbach flows into the Wadrill. A beaver's lodge is clearly visible in the dammed Wadrill. Frau Holles' path now leads without exception through the valley of the Wadrill until the end of the tour. The hiking trail has been certified by the German Hiking Institute with 76 points.
After the hike, visit the nearby resort of Reinsfeld. There, numerous gastronomic establishments invite you to stop for a bite to eat. And here, too, a beaver family has built a dam (approx.800m from the hikers' car park).
Some of the dream loops are steep, difficult and, in rainy or winter weather, slippery. Therefore, hiking boots, surefootedness and good physical condition are essentialprerequisites for hiking these premium circular trails.
