This magical hiking trail really lives up to its name. The 7.7 km circular route starts off at the 'Frau Holle' (Mother Hulda) rock formation and goes through dense forests, passing by the gorgeous courses of the Lauschbach and Wadrill streams. The high point is the beaver dam at the Keller Steg. This route, parts of which coincide with the Saar-Hunsrück Climb, is quite short and only includes one ascent, which makes it suitable for unpractised walkers, too.

This hiking trail has been awarded 76 points in the certification by the German Hiking Institute.

The rock formation that gave the hiking trail its name is found at the beginning of the tour: Frau Holle. This is the name of a rock formation in the lower part of which, according to Germanic folklore, the eyes of Frau Holle can be seen. The valley of the Wadrill opens up and you cross the narrow stream over a footbridge. Behind it follows the only major ascent of the entire tour. On the steep ascent to the Taubenberg, 100 metres in altitude have to be overcome. The trail leads along the ridge over a narrow path littered with countless roots into the coniferous forest typical of the Hochwald. Jungle-like images emerge, dark path passages are repeatedly crossed by glistening sunlight. In the valley, the Lauschbach flows like a giant lindworm, winding its way through the dark pine in many small and large meanders. At the bottom of the valley, you follow the stream until you reach the Keller Steg. Here the Lauschbach flows into the Wadrill. A beaver's lodge is clearly visible in the dammed Wadrill. Frau Holles' path now leads without exception through the valley of the Wadrill until the end of the tour. The hiking trail has been certified by the German Hiking Institute with 76 points.

After the hike, visit the nearby resort of Reinsfeld. There, numerous gastronomic establishments invite you to stop for a bite to eat. And here, too, a beaver family has built a dam (approx.800m from the hikers' car park).

Turn-by-turn directions

The actual start of the dream loop Frau Holle can be reached via the approx. 1 km long access road from the car park "An der roten Lok/Eventbahnhof" in Reinsfeld. Please use the car park in the village as the starting point - the access route to the dream loop is signposted. From the hikers' car park on the B 407 between Reinsfeld and Kell am See (point S on the map), the trail is 7.7 km long. The trail immediately leads us past the imposing rock formation with the fairytale name "Frau Holle". From here we enjoy a first glimpse of the beautifully situated Wadrill Valley. After only a few metres, we leave the farm track and the only major ascent to the Taubenberg begins. On this varied uphill stretch we overcome 100 metres in altitude. We are rewarded by wide views of the Hochwald landscape and the resort of Reinsfeld. Further on, a path leads us downhill through a landscape similar to primeval forest, as well as a coniferous forest, which is also typical of the Hochwald, into the valley of the Lauschbach. We follow the course of the stream until we reach the beaver dam at the Keller Steg. This place with a seating area is ideal for a rest. The route then leads us along a farm track further into the Wadrill valley towards Reinsfeld. Past the Beidelstein, we descend after 500m to the banks of the Wadrill. We follow the idyllic course of the stream and cross the river over a wooden bridge at the Bocksberg. The rest of the trail continues along the course of the Wadrill stream to the starting point. The tranquillity and beauty of this valley, nestled between Bocksberg and Taubenberg, make this section of the trail a special experience. During the hike, benches or soft forest and meadow ground invite you to linger.Via the access road of approx. 1 kilometre, we reach the village of Reinsfeld again, where gastronomic establishments await us for refreshments (point E on the map).
