Safety information

The route often runs along so-called farm tracks. These are used for agricultural purposes and are used by tractors and harvesters all year round. We would like to point out that the use of the paths is at your own risk and ask for mutual consideration in the interest of all. The farm tracks may be soiled by agricultural traffic. After rainy days and especially in winter, the paths can be wet and slippery.

Turn-by-turn directions

You start at the tourist information office at the hist. Freinsheim town hall. Cross the market square in the direction of the iron gate. At the end of the square in front of the gate, turn right into the narrow path "Auf der Schanz". You will pass the baroque garden and at the end of the path you will come to Badstraße. Follow this to the left, cross the road and go straight ahead along Riedweg past the petrol station. After the riding stables at the end of the Riedweg, the path turns right. You walk along the blossom hiking trail (marking: Coretstele with sawn-out blossom motif) past various paddocks and continue to the gated level crossing. After crossing the railway tracks, turn left and walk along the railway tracks. You can now also orientate yourself by the marking of the Sandhasenweg 3 (hare with No. 3). After the small slope, keep left and pass a small lake. After the lake, turn right and after about 200 metres turn right again. Follow the path to the south and orientate yourself by the hare markings. The Sandhasenweg then turns left and you come to the playground in the Ludwigshain below the Musik- und Kulturverein (MuK). Take the path next to the steps on the right and continue below the MuK on the Sandhasenweg. At the end of the path, turn right into the hairpin bend ("Ludwigshain") and now stay straight ahead on Sandhasenweg 3, which leads you across open space to the houses of the Eyersheimer Mühle. At the sign Kraut- und Rübenradweg (symbol of a carrot), keep to the right in the direction of Erpolzheim. Walk to the entrance to the village and turn left into von-Maurer-Straße. At the end of the street, cross the main road and continue to the end of the bridge. At the wooden sign, turn right onto the path along the "Isenach" stream. Follow the stream until you reach the sign "Im Kitzig". Turn right again here and walk past the Kohl winery (Georg-Amend-Straße) until you reach the main road. Cross the road and you will reach Herxheimer Weg. This leads you along a small path into the Portugieserring. Turn left at the sign "Sackgasse" and then right again at the next intersection.Continue slightly uphill towards the Freinsheim cemetery with its clearly visible, distinctive fortified tower. Once you have reached the top, walk down the small hill along Friedhofstraße until you reach Haintorstraße in the town. On the right hand side you will see the town gate "Haintor". Go through it and at the next bend, turn left into Breite Straße. At the end of Breite Straße, diagonally opposite, is your starting point, the Freinsheim Tourist Information Centre in the historic town hall. Town Hall. You are welcome to join a tour around the 1.3 km long town wall from here (see tip).
