The hike takes you to the Saumagen vineyard to the west of Kallstadt without any notable climbs. You have a wonderful view of the Rhine plain all the way to the Odenwald. The trail logo is a stylised Saumagen, which is always easy to recognise on dark blue steel posts along the trail.

The route often runs along so-called farm tracks. These are used for agricultural purposes and are used by tractors and harvesters all year round. We would like to point out that the use of the paths is at your own risk and ask for mutual consideration in the interest of all. The farm tracks may be soiled by agricultural traffic. After rainy days and especially in winter, the paths can be wet and slippery.

The paths are partly unpaved and can be somewhat slippery in bad weather.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the 100 Wines Square, walk past the sports hall on the right and follow the Saumagen logo on the dark blue steel stelae, first heading north towards Herxheim am Berg. The path makes a bend halfway up the slope and then leads back southwards to the road between Kallstadt and Leistadt. Cross the road (note: no crossing aid), turn right and follow the initially unpaved path parallel to the road up the slope. Then take the first paved farm track on the left into the vineyards. At the first fork, turn left and then left again after about 400 metres.At the Kallstadter Weiher pond, turn left again and then right after 100 metres. You reach the outskirts of Kallstadt and turn left into Backhausgasse. Walk until you reach the traffic lights in Leistadter Straße. Here you keep to the right in the direction of St. Salvator Church. On the opposite side is the starting point, the Platz der 100 Weine.

By road

From the north:

A6 motorway (Mannheim/Kaiserslautern, Grünstadt exit) towards Bad Dürkheim, on B271 (German Wine Route) via Herxheim am Berg to Kallstadt.

From the south:

Motorway A61 at the Ludwigshafen junction onto the A650 towards Bad Dürkheim. At the end of the extension, go straight on in the direction of Gewerbegebiet Trift/Grünstadt. At the 2nd traffic light, turn right towards Ungstein. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit towards Ungstein/Grünstadt. After 50m, turn right towards Kallstadt (B271).

Parking

Parking on the "Platz der 100 Weine" in the centre of town between the church and the tourist information office (parking time limit with parking disc from 12 noon for 3h) or parking at the cemetery (at the level of the winegrowers' cooperative, turn from Weinstraße into Friedhofstraße, parking possible without time limit).

Schöne Landschaft, angenehme Wege die man alle auch bequem mit dem Kinderwagen bewältigen kann. Haben die Tour an einem bedeckten und Nass kalten Januartag gemacht, im Herbst, bei Schnee im Winter und bei schönem Wetter sicherlich noch imposanter.
