Safety information
The route often runs along so-called farm tracks. These are used for agricultural purposes and are used by tractors and harvesters all year round. We would like to point out that the use of the paths is at your own risk and ask for mutual consideration in the interest of all. The farm tracks may be soiled by agricultural traffic. After rainy days and especially in winter, the paths can be wet and slippery.Tips and hints

Turn-by-turn directions
The hike begins at the village square in Weisenheim am Berg. You follow Leistadter Straße until you leave the village. Here you turn right into Südtiroler Ring. At the level of Plauser Straße, turn left out of the village. You are now on the German Wine Route cycle and hiking path, which you follow southwards until you enter Leistadt. Here you cross the main road at the Weidenhof car park and find yourself at the entrance to the Felsenberg/Berntal nature reserve. Walk through the valley incision past the imposing cliff edge of the Felsenberg, past orchards and vines to the small bridge. Here you take the steps to the left up to the Riesling hiking trail (marking: wine glass on blue post), which you follow to the left. The path leads you to the centre of the village to the Square of 100 Wines. Here you will find the local landmark St. Salvator's Church with its lion fountain, and the tourist information office i-Punkt Kallstadt will help you with any questions you may have.
Cross the Weinstraße and walk a short distance into Neugasse and then immediately turn left into Schlittweg until you reach Burgunderweg (marked: wine barrel on blue post). Continue along Burgunderweg in a northerly direction. After a good 700 metres, it turns right. Here you will also see signs for the cycle path to Freinsheim. Follow the asphalt path until you reach the prominent Oschelskopf sculpture, where you can take a rest. At the Oschelskopf, turn left, then immediately left again at the next junction and right at the next crossroads. You now walk directly north again and reach Herxheim am Berg after a short climb at the eastern entrance to the town. Turn left and walk uphill along the main road into the village. After the bend in the road, turn right and walk past the village green towards the church. Behind the church you reach the castle garden with its wonderful view of the Rhine plain. Leave the castle garden on the opposite side and walk along Friedhofstraße to the left until you reach the German Wine Road, passing the Pfaffenhof Gate on your left.
Cross the Weinstraße at the traffic lights, turn left, turn right into Raiffeisenstraße and walk to the edge of the village. There you turn left from Raiffeisenstraße into the vineyards and left again at the next junction until you are almost level with Weinstraße. Turn right here and follow the path parallel to the road for a few metres until it bends to the right at the rainwater retention basin. You pass the sign with information about the Herxheimer Kartsthöhle cave and walk about 400 metres in a westerly direction towards the distant edge of the forest. You now turn right and left again at the Vinothek am Felsenberg. After about 300 metres, turn right at the sign with the Green Cross and follow the farm track north for about 600 metres, then turn left, right, left in short succession and walk a short distance directly west. The paved path turns left again and immediately right again and leads to the car park at the entrance to the village, from where it is only a few more steps along Leistadter Straße until you reach the village square again.
