Once again, the Steig shows itself from its most beautiful side. The gentle foothills of the Ahr Mountains and beautiful views of the Rhine plain compensate us for the strenuous passages.

On the 15.4 km long final stage of the AhrSteigs again enjoy hiking is announced. Once again the trail shows its best side. The gentle foothills of the Ahrgebirge and beautiful views of the Rhine valley inspire. The inviting Barbarossa town of Sinzig awaits you at your destination. Via the 2.7 km marked access route you can hike from Bad Neuenahr via the Waldkletterpark via a steep ascent to Neuenahrer Berg - with a view of the Ahr valley and the Landskrone. You can reach the Idienbachtal via soft, springy forest paths. Dirt roads lead towards Heimersheim. You pass the village Ehlingen and reach via wine paths up to the Ehlinger Ley. Continue on the ridge of Mühlenberg over to the Feltenturm. For the last time, it goes steeply downhill to the stage destination Schloss Sinzig near the late Romanesque St. Peter's Basilica with church square. The marked access road leads to the nature reserve of the Ahrmündung.

Author’s recommendation

We can not miss the marked path to the mouth of the Ahr at Kripp, even if the Ahrsteig officially ends at the castle in Sinzig.

Turn-by-turn directions

Bad Neuenahr - Neuenahrer Mountain - Beilratsberg - Heimersheim - Ehlingen - Ehlinger Lei - Feltenturm - Sinzig Castle

About the marked access road from Bad Neuenahr up to the Paradieswiese. Through old mixed forest we ascend briskly up to the Neuenahrer mountain. From the observation tower, the view sweeps across to the Siebengebirge.

The following descent is leisurely. Only the last piece down to Idienbach is again adventurous. This descent is the exit from the valley. Steep it goes up on a narrow natural trail. Soon we leave the forest behind us and reach the small wine town Heimersheim. Through the open corridor we reach Ehlingen, which comes up with lovingly restored historic buildings, Here one welcomes the hiker in quaint pubs. Now up to the Ehlinger Ley, a last short climb, then the path leads almost without height differences along the slope towards Sinzig. On the way, we can stop off in the "Winzerhäuschen" or in the "Ännchen". A last lookout tower, the Feltenturm, promises once again spectacular views across the Rhine plain all the way to the Siebengebirge. Shortly thereafter, we arrived in the Barabarossastadt Sinzig. The spacious church square at the foot of the Basilica of St. Peter spreads urban flair. Here we like to come in one of the cafes or bars and let the past days review again.
