The fourth stage of the RheinBurgenWeg (RBW) takes you on a journey to a former world of fire and ash! On the route from Andernach to Bassenheim the RBW winds past extensive terraces of pumice stone.  The wild and romantic Nette Valley and a number of incredible views are further highlights on this section of the trail

Safety information

Wear suitable weatherproof clothing that will protect you from cold, wet, heat and sunshine.

Make sure you take regular breaks and don't overexert yourself.

Take enough fluids with you as there are sections without rest stops.

Wear suitable hiking boots/shoes which give you enough grip on slippery, steep, rocky and uneven surfaces.

Avoid any sections of the route which you feel are too difficult for you. Natural trails can quickly become wet and slippery in adverse weather conditions.

Particularly in autumn, you should be careful of uneven ground, roots, stones or holes that have been covered by leaves.

You need to take these kinds of adverse conditions into account every time you go on a hike.

Particularly steep and dangerous places are made safer with handrails or ropes. Please use these as safety aids. Handrails are not to be climbed on or used to get a better view!

Turn-by-turn directions

Off into the Land of Fire!

A path leads from the centre of Andernach back onto the RheinBurgenWeg. The path continues uphill across open terrain to the community centre. At the top, you're rewarded by fabulous views. You can see for miles on all sides, and thus take in the wondrous volcanic peaks of the foothills of the Eifel as well as the Neuwied Basin. Continue on to Miesenheim. Pass under the B256, passing the station on your right, following the RheinBurgenWeg signposts through the quiet streets of the village. Before heading out of Miesenheim, you'll come to the idyllic River Nette and follow its course for a short way. The path starts climbing and your gaze is involuntarily drawn to the profile of majestic pumice terraces. You now come to a plateau and walk past the paths to Kettig and Saffig. Hike along the valley of the Kettig stream with its many fruit trees and you'll come to the path to the "Orchard Meadow Trail" (Streuobstwiesenweg ), a premium circular trail. Climb uphill until you find yourself surrounded by colourful hedges as you cross the high plateau dominated by fields. Continue towards Bassenheim, crossing the A61 and following the path past the cemetery. Once you've arrived at the outskirts of the village, cross the B258 and continue into the town centre where this stage ends.

1. Heisst es nicht Meisenheim, es ist Miesenheim.
