The 60 kilometre round tour leads through the natural landscape of the Bernkastel-Kues holiday region. You will pass through vineyards and forests, historical villages and buildings. The tour starts in the twin town of Bernkastel-Kues. From here, the tour continues past the Fierskapelle chapel up to the Kueser Plateau. Along the edge of the hand, the path leads along beautiful vantage points such as the Trinity and Grainskopf. Via the monastery mill Siebenborn and Maring-Noviand the path then returns to the Moselle valley to Lieser. After crossing the Moselle, you reach Mülheim and now explore the Moselhunsrück. Passing castles - also called "little Venice" - you will go to Gornhausen and from there towards Veldenz. Here too, beautiful views and recommended detours - such as to Veldenz Castle - await you. Through the forest we return to Bernkastel-Kues. A last stop should definitely be made at Landshut Castle, from where there is a great view of the town.

Bernkastel-Kues

Turn-by-turn directions

From Bernkastel the tour takes you over the Moselle bridge and roundabout to the Kues district. A gentle ascent takes you through Kues up to the Fierskapelle chapel, in the vineyards above Kues. Behind the Fierskapelle chapel, the path branches off to the left and now leads you - steadily along the edge between vineyards and forest - around the Kues plateau. Above Lieser the tour turns away from the Moselle valley, you leave the vineyards and the tour leads you from the edge of the slope up through forest to the Kueser plateau.Over the extensive Kueser plateau the route leads you relatively evenly to the Trinity. From the Trinity, you continue via the Grainskopf and the village of Platten, steadily through closed mixed forest, in a long loop finally down into the Liesertal to the Siebenborn monastery and the village of Maring. Here, directly on the Maare-Moselle cycle path, the Siebenborn Monastery offers a welcome stopover. The Maare-Moselle cycle path continues through the Liesertal valley, down to its confluence with the Moselle. You cross the Moselle at the Mülheim bridge. Through the village of Mülheim (numerous places to stop for refreshments), you continue to cycle along the Frohnbach stream in a gentle ascent to the village of Burgen and on towards Hirzlei.Shortly before the village of Hirzlei you turn right into the vineyards and after a short time you will reach the forest. For a few kilometres, the route takes you through dense deciduous forest, first steadily uphill and then back downhill to the Frohnbach Valley and the Klara Mill. Here you can stop for a break. From the Klaramühle, the tour leads you steeply uphill past the Barbelley rock, through deciduous forest up to the peak of the Haardtkopf at 658m above sea level. From the highest point of the tour, you descend continuously downhill into the tranquil Hinterbachtal valley. Follow this valley for a while until shortly after the Thelenmühle you continue steeply uphill towards Monzelfeld. Shortly before leaving the forest, turn left onto a road towards the Grimselhütte. After about 2 kilometres you leave the forest path and follow a narrow single trail slightly uphill for about one kilometre to the Grimselhütte. At the Grimselhütte (unmanned and a few metres off the trail) you should take a short break and enjoy the fantastic view of the Hinterbach valley and Veldenz Castle. After crossing the busy L158, you continue along forest paths, constantly changing up and down, over the Wilhelmshöhe, always above the Moselle. After leaving the forest for a short while, with a view of the village of Monzelfeld, the route leads you steeply downhill to Landshut Castle and Bernkastel.
