The 2nd stage leads to the roots of Hildegard. It is characterised by medieval impressions. The historic centre of Herrstein with its idyllic alleys and nooks has received several awards for its successful restoration. According to the latest research, Niederhosenbach is the probable birthplace of Hildegard. This is why the theme of the information board at the Protestant church is also dedicated to Hildegard's origins. It also provides an insight into the townscape of the time. Small villages and a varied landscape characterise the stage.

Hildegard von Bingen pilgrimage trailHildegard von Bingen, abbess, poet, theologian, naturalist and healer, lived all her life in today's Nahe holiday region.The 137 kilometre long Hildegard von Bingen Pilgrim's Trail leads past various stages in the life of this probably most famous personality of the Middle Ages. The trail starts in Idar-Oberstein and continues via Niederhosenbach, the family seat and possible birthplace of Hildegard von Bingen, to Bad Sobernheim. Not far from here is the Disibodenberg monastery ruin, where Hildegard spent almost 40 significant years of her life. The pilgrims' trail finally ends in Bingen am Rhein. Here, the Rupertsberg vaulted cellar still bears witness to Hildegard von Bingen's last place of work: in 1150, the saint founded the Rupertsberg monastery, which was the place of her work for 29 years. The last stops on this ecumenical pilgrimage trail are the Hildegard shrine in the pilgrimage church of St. Hildegard Rüdesheim-Ebingen and the abbey of St. Hildegard Ebingen.The pilgrimage trail is divided into 10 stages. The stages range from 5 to 21 kilometres. 58 information and meditation panels along the entire route provide information about the person of Hildegard, her work and life in the Middle Ages. Hikers approach the spiritual side of Hildegard von Bingen through meditation panels which follow Hildegard von Bingen's visionary pictures from her main work "Silvias - Know the Ways" and give impulses for meditation. The boards are written in both German and English.The pilgrim's pass can be stamped at the Naheland-Touristik GmbH, at the tourist information offices, at various route stations and finally at St. Hildegard Abbey in Eibingen.

The second stage leads from medieval Herrstein to the small town of Niederhosenbach, which according to the latest research is the probable birthplace of Hildegard. This is why the theme of the information panel is also Hildegard's origin (panel 6). A facsimile edition of the Liber Scivias can be admired in the Protestant church. This is Hildegard's main mystical work, through which she became world famous. As we follow all of Hildegard's visions on the 27 meditation panels on the Hildegardweg in the order she has given them, the theme of creation and the Fall of Man is the result of the meditation panel (panel 5). In front of the church there is the first mediation corner on the path and invites you to linger.From Niederhosenbach the path continues on to Bergen. In the forest area there is an information board on Hildegard's book about trees and bushes (board 7). In Bergen you can reflect on the universe (plate 8) and stop for a break at the pilgrimage centre of Rev. Advance booking is welcome. In the entrance area there is a rest area with a food cupboard. - From Bergen the path continues through the romantic Trübenbach valley to Kirn. The canyon-like, wildly romantic Trübenbach valley is a special nature experience. Mosses, ferns and a small waterfall surprise the hiker, as do the oak, ash and hornbeam slopes.On the way there is an information board about Hildegard's book about birds and winged animals (board 9). - We reach the city limits of Kirn below the Kyrburg, Kirn's landmark, and follow the markings through the city to the market place - our stage destination.In the evening in Kirn, the tired pilgrim is welcome to enjoy a well-earned Kirner Pils according to Hildegard's motto "Water and beer" (plate 10). - For the day's reading we recommend an article about Hildegard's mystical book, which Liber Scivias whose visionary pictures occupy us on the Hildegardweg.

Our tips for carefree hiking pleasure:

Hiking is the perfect sport. With the right clothing and the right shoes, it is twice as much fun. Functional clothing, poles and breathable rucksacks are comfortable when hiking. But good shoes are indispensable. Sturdy jogging or leisure shoes are only suitable for short distances on level paths at best. For longer distances we recommend sturdy hiking boots with non-slip soles. Also remember to bring sun protection and a drink. One litre of water is ideal.

Tolle abwechslungsreiche Wanderung auch wenn leider alle Kirchen zu. Am Ende von Niederhosenbach nette wanderstation. Ebenso der verzehrschrank in Bergen eine nette Geste. Fragwürdig die wegführung nach Bergen. 2km geteerten Umweg durch die Felder fanden wir sinnlos. Schutzhütte bei der Eiche in schlechtem Zustand. Entschädigt wird man am Ende durch das tolle wildromantische trübenbachtal. Wegen dem geben wir 5 Sterne
