Starting in Sohren, the tour runs twice through the Soonwald-Nahe Nature Park, where Johannes Bückler, alias "Schinderhannes", once wreaked havoc as a robber. Along the way, the main filming location of the triology Woppenroth, Gehlweiler, the Hunsrück Cathedral in Ravengiersburg and the characteristic water tower in Kirchberg invite you to a cultural-historical photo stop.

Author’s recommendation

If you want to replenish your energy reserves before the climb to Col de Ellerspring, we recommend a piece of cake at Malepartus in Keereshäuschen.

Turn-by-turn directions

From Sohren, the tour first leads moderately through the Burgdorf Dill and via Sohrschied and Woppenroth to Gehlweiler, where boards provide information about the main filming location of the Heimat Triologie - a good opportunity to take a breather, because the climb through the Soonwald past the Koppenstein ruins makes the calves burn for a short while, before the tour continues in an undulating up and down with great views via Schwarzerden and Weitersborn to Seesbach. A short, winding descent awaits before the ascent to Col de Ellerspring in Soonwald from Winterbach again challenges the calves. The descent towards Tiefenbach makes you forget the efforts of the ascent. In an alternation of climbs and descents, the route now runs past Sargenroth via Ravengiersburg, where you can admire the Hunsrück Cathedral, and on via Schönborn to Kirchberg with its historic market square back to Sohren.

By road
