Through the vineyards along the Nahe to the Rhine

Diverse, varied and of high quality, this is how Nahe wine presents itself to every wine connoisseur. The Rhine-Nahe Wine Trail is in no way inferior to this. / Mighty rock formations, deep valley incisions, proud castles, vast forests, lush meadows, charming wine villages line the route between the banks of the Nahe and the forests in the Soonwald- Nahe Nature Park.

Starting in Kirn, the hiking trail covers the entire wine-growing region of the Middle and Lower Nahe and ends at the mouth of the Nahe in Bingen am Rhein. The hike is all about excellent wine and feasting - after all, the Nahe region is the home of the spit-roast and the lovely drop to go with it grows right next door.

Gently undulating hills, covered all over with vines, roll from the wooded heights to the Nahe, light green in spring and summer, lushly coloured in shades of rust and brown in autumn, when wine lovers are drawn to the region for the “Federweißen”. Since the wine trail runs for the most part on gravelled or asphalted wine-growing farm roads, it is easy to walk in any weather. In addition, the painstaking work of the winegrowers can be experienced at first hand.

If your socks are starting to steam, take a detour to the barefoot path in Bad Sobernheim. The gentle movement in soothingly cool clay pools revives tired and heavy legs, and walking on grass, sand, stones and bark mulch is better than any foot reflexology massage. At the Nahe ford, the feet are then washed clean again.

On both sides of the trail, numerous complementary circular walks can delve even deeper into the subject of wine.

Author’s recommendation

The numerous wine taverns in the wine villages are the best place to get to know the special flair of the Naheland.
