Rhine-Nahe Wine Trail - Stage 1: Kirn - Weiler
First we head uphill into the shady forests above the Nahe Valley. From Simmertal, the landscape opens up to the wine-growing region and the village of Weiler lies in the middle of the vineyards.
At the starting point in Kirn, the tour can be started directly at a prominent landmark with the Kyrburg castle high above the town from where there is a wonderful view of the valleys of the Nahe and Hahnenbach. The shady forests high above the Nahe Valley are first walked through before the eponymous wine regions reveal themselves along the way. However, you should not just walk past Dhaun Castle, which lies along the route - the atmosphere and above all the magnificent panoramic view of the valley are far too impressive to miss. / Near Simmertal, the Simmerbach, which is called Kellenbach from Gemünden, flows into the Nahe. The end of the first stage can be enjoyed wonderfully in the village of Weiler near Monzingen with a glass of wine in one of the winegrowers’ farms or counters.
Author’s recommendation
A detour to the collegiate church of St. Johannisberg and the Nahe Skywalk there is worthwhile. The viewpoint overlooks a 60-metre-high rock face.
