Rhine-Nahe Wine Trail - Stage 3: Staudernheim - Niederhausen
Time travel on the Nahe. Castles, ruins and magnificent distant views characterise this section of the wine trail in the heart of the Nahe wine-growing region.
Between the Nahe and Glan rivers, the Disibodenberg is home to the ruins of a massive monastery complex built in the 12th century, one of the most important cultural monuments, where Saint Hildegard of Bingen spent 39 years of her monastic life. Today, the 2.5 hectare ruin complex is embedded in a nature reserve. The old trees between the remains of the walls give this place a calm and at the same time powerful aura. The Villa Rustica in the small community of Boos is even older. From the Nahe Valley there is now an ascent to the 30-metre high Heimberg tower with a far-reaching view over the region. The ruins of Böckelheim Castle take us back to the Middle Ages. Along the Felsenberg, the trail then leads through the most famous vineyards on the Nahe to the stage town of Niederhausen.
Author’s recommendation
From the Niederhausen reservoir, the Lemberggeister Trail leads to the Schmittenstollen, where you can “enter” a former mercury mine.
