Rhine-Nahe Wine Trail - Stage 5: Bad Kreuznach - Guldental
Relaxed hiking with distant views over vineyards, meadows and fields. On this stage, the eye wanders over the Lower Nahe to Rheinhessen.
Don’t get lost: The historic town centre in Bad Kreuznach is called “Neustadt” and has many winding corners and half-timbered houses to offer. It is certainly worthwhile to make a small detour here before the start of stage 5. Once you have crossed the castle park with its three museums and Roman excavations, you soon leave Bad Kreuznach behind and the stage offers vineyards, fields and meadows galore.
We leave all the villages to the left and right and hike through unpopulated areas until the end of the stage. Not to be overlooked is the hermitage, located between Bretzenheim and Guldental. The accessible rock dwelling is considered to be the only monastery carved into the rock north of the Alps. The numerous winegrowers, guesthouses and holiday flats in Guldental offer plenty of opportunity to regenerate for the final stage the next day.
Author’s recommendation
With its 50 locomotives dating from 1903 to 1981, the light railway museum near Guldental offers true railway romance on two kilometres of track.
