Walddistelpfad in Farschweiler
In 2009, a 3.4 km long nature trail on the wood thistle and on the forest, nature and its protection in general was created, with great support from the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park and the state. In 2021, on the initiative and under the leadership of the Heimat-und Verkehrsverein Farschweiler e.V. in cooperation with the Tourist Information of the Ruwer Municipality and with the financial support of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park, the redesign of the Wood Thistle Trail was realised.
The nature discovery trail is very popular with children and is often visited by school and kindergarten groups. At the individual stations, very different topics can be experienced, some of them interactively. For example, you can learn about wood as a source of energy, test whether you can jump as far as a hare or a lynx in a jumping pit, or count the rings on a tree trunk to find out its age. On a former charcoal kiln site, you can still find remnants of the charcoal that was processed here back then under the foliage. Forest detectives can go in search of various objects, and information boards on the wildcat and the wolf provide facts worth knowing about these inhabitants of the forest.
A new feature is the digital scavenger hunt offered along the trail. You can easily answer tricky questions if you pay attention at the stations along the way. You will find the QR code with the link to the digital scavenger hunt directly on site. Further information can be found on the homepage of the Ruwer tourist information office at https://www.ruwer-hochwald.de/aktiverlebnisse/wandern/themenwege-lehrpfade/walddistelpfad/.

Gasthaus Zur PostSafety information
Especially in autumn, be aware that leaves lying on the ground can hide bumps, roots, stones or holes in the path. After storms, trees can still fall over or branches can fall down. Especially in adverse weather conditions, muddy and slippery passages can occur on natural paths. You have to reckon with this kind of path impairment when you go on a hike.Start
