From the Barbarossa city of Kaiserslautern to the Veldenz town of Lauterecken, the cycle route runs for 34 km through the idyllic Lauter valley, home to a wide range of cultural and scenic attractions. Starting from Gartenschau park in Kaiserslautern, the cycle route follows the course of the river Lauter to Otterbach. There you have the opportunity to visit the Stellwerk Museum, signal box museum, located directly on the cycle route, or the motorcycle museum. We highly recommend taking a trip to the Walloon town of Otterberg, with its impressive half-timbered houses and 12th-century monastery church. The trail continues through varied scenery and past pretty villages with excellent places to stop for a rest as it wends its way towards Katzweiler, Hirschhorn and Olsbrücken en route to the North Palatine Uplands. Never far from the river Lauter, cyclists continue their off-road journey before soon reaching the town of Wolfstein. In Wolfstein, they can visit attractions including the
Kalkbergwerk sightseeing lime mine at Königsberg, or the ruins of Alt and Neu Wolfstein castles. An idyllic path directly by the river Lauter takes riders to the municipality of Heinzenhausen. From here, it is not much further to Lauterecken. Veldenz Castle and the war memorial in Lauterecken are well worth a visit. A draisine trip on the disused railway line between Altenglan and Staudernheim is a very special experience.
